Most Wonderful TIME of the Year

Oh my yes, I L-O-V-E that wonderful day in October when the clocks all slip back one hour, giving moms everywhere that secret extra hour of sleep. Honestly it is like the best mental health day of the year. Christmas, birthdays, those are fun and all, but nothing compares to the unadulterated joy I get from crawling into bed and adjusting the time on my alarm clock to give that huge 60 boost of joy. I am sure I even tricked the babies last night. They thought they got to stay up and extra hour. But oh no, i was KEEPING them up and extra hour so they would sleep till their regular wake up time. I DID NOT want any babies up for the day at 5:30 or 6:00 AM. Yikes, that would have been like nutso. I am a little concerned tonight. DrewAllen, the baby, usually stays up until 9;30 or so, and he is already out like a light, has been for 15 minutes.
I know this is brief, but I am off to sleep now also.
I want to say though that today I was overwhelmed with how good God has been to me lately. I am so blessed by his continued Mercy and Strength in my ability to care for these boys, I should not be able to do this. It is a challenge but God has been faithful. My new home is going to be a true palace. I cannot believe Dave was kind enough to agree to work for us. Truly I cannot say enough at his brilliance and creativity. Again, God worked out what I did not think was going to happen. We were able to afford the new car to haul everyone and all their stuff around in. Not my car of choice, but good thing I am not in charge, cause it has been a blessing. I have been still able to get a day or two of riding in every week. Drew and I just got back from a three/four day get away with no kids and no animals. Wow!!
God is so very Gracious.

I love God's timing too... I would not have made it to church today without that extra hour... (even though I was late.)

Well, I decided to give up on the painting. for a few days. The caseworker is coming on Tuesday and she will just have to see a half painted bathroom. I just have to chose my battles right now... and painting can't be one of them. I will keep you posted on whether I get everything done... hung the smoke detector - check, put the fire ladder in the girls' room - check, organized my office - check, hung all the curtains - check, ironed all the curtains - (I am hoping a good dose of febreeze will be enough to get the bad wrinkles out - this is one battle I am not choosing...)

It has been about 2-3 weeks since I lost one of my remote controls... the one that turns the TV on, has the volume and closed caption. My hearing isn't the greatest, so I love to watch movies and TV with the closed caption on... well good thing I have been so busy I haven't had much time for TV because I still can't find that remote. I have then one that turns the cable on and makes the channels go up and down, but I can't find the other one anywhere... oh well...

the next two days will be the hardest... have a good week all...

Well I guess my mother is worried about me too. Not so sure what is so bad about being manic... I don't think I have the clinical definition. I just think I am feeling the weight of a deadline and have an adrenaline rush to get it all done. I am looking forward to resting and not doing all of this running around. It will be good to just sit and relax. (I told my mom that and she said, "You are getting kids right? Sit and relax... you're so funny..."

I will post pictures on my blog later tonight or tomorrow of how everything looks... it is coming together. I am not sure though why everyone is so worried... if they had friends that were having a baby and they were putting a crib together, clearing out a spare room and turning it into a nursery, child-proofing a house, would you be concerned for them? Part of the process were the adoption classes. I wasn't happy that the real estate classes were at the same time, but I am glad to have them behind me as it would have been too difficult to take the classes with kids.

I can be a pretty lazy person, so to get as much done as I have been getting done is wonderful. I am not taking any drugs and not even any caffine. I have been drinking Stash mint tea which is decaf.

Hey... and an FYI - the febreeze worked perfectly and took seconds... plus they smell good now.

Have a good day. Gotta work, take a nap, go to class.

Congratulations, Vicki! It seems like all three of us — Sandy, you, and me — have been doing amazing things with our lives the past year!

Mine are small and petty, but still amazing!

Off the Grateful Dead, but I've now been listening to No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom (punk/rock/ska), quite loudly, for the past few hours. The gift of music is so great!

Okay, back to work... congratulations again, Vicki! And keep on posting, Sandy!

Okay, the election is (finally) over, and people have a lot of thoughtful and profound things to say and opine about that. I, too, am still super-busy, and should be packing for my trip to the big city for the next two days, but instead, I bring you... well, mostly for Vicki's sake,

THE GREAT GREEN TEA ANALYSIS

You know that Vicki has found a new obsession, and that's diet green tea. I've thrown in with a few comments about this Very Important Subject, but now I can add some DATA! In the past two weeks, I've tried the following, and have the following feedback:

Lipton's Diet Green Tea with Citrus:
It's inexpensive, and tastes great. The "citrus" bit helps cut down on the funky artificial sweetener aftertaste. ROB'S GRADE: A

Arizona Diet Green Iced Tea with Honey and Ginseng:
Just a hair less expensive than Lipton's effort, above, with the added "benefit" of ginseng, which is supposed to "tone" one's internal organs. Actually, the list of things ginseng's supposed to do is as deep and wide as the internet itself. A different taste, nice and mild, and also GOOD. ROB'S GRADE: A

WalMart Diet Green Iced Tea with Honey and Ginseng:
Actually MORE expensive than either of the above, and has a decidedly stronger green tea taste... very "grassy," and there's also some other odd taste... like, oh, I don't know, Satan's jockstrap. ROB'S GRADE: F

Lipton's Green Tea (bags) with Citrus:
Yes, this is doin' it old school. You actually heat water and brew the tea and add your sweetener of choice (or not). Has more "flavinoids" than the others, plus the advantage that you can adjust strength. Smooth and mild. ROB'S GRADE: A+

I hope you all appreciate this brief guide to the wild and wooly green tea market. If you have the time, go with the tea bags. If you're lazy like me, go for either the pre-made Lipton's or Arizona stuff. Avoid the bizarrely more expensive and awful-tasting WalMart brand.

It's packin' time!

Thank you for the DATA Rob... very helpful. I have tried most of what you have listed as well. I love the "F" for Wal-Mart... I think the Arizona tea is one of my favorites. I also like one of the dairy farms versions... I can't think of it right now...

My latest fave is Stash peppermint tea. It is caffine free so that is probably good in my case. Maybe the ginseng was making me manic...

Anyway, I pour boiling water over 5 tea bags and 3/4 cup of Splenda. I let it steep for a long time. Then I pour the tea in a washed out Arizona tea container since they are so nice and heavy duty. Then I pour more boiling water over the tea bags to really get every last drop of tea out of them. Let that steep for a while and then squeeze the tea bags out and add that to my jug. Shake good and then add ice cold water to fill the pitcher up 2/3 of the way, sometimes more... then chill...

It is delicious. I like it better cold than hot.

I have been crashing lately... can't be manic forever. I am really tired and have been taking naps again. But the good news is that the major craziness is over, so that is ok (until the kids come.)

Have a good trip Rob. Hope you enjoy your time with your mom. Take some pictures... I would love to see some pics of you and your mom... and Arizona... (does she have a big cactus in the front yard?... Maybe someday I will get to see that side of the world...)

have a great time.

Sandy... how ya doing?

Wow, in the low 80's today! Beautiful!

Yes, those Arizona Iced Tea containers are unusually heavy-duty, aren't they? What's up with that?

Just finished the weird, but entertaining Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, which... well, you just have to watch for yourself.

A busy weekend, ahead... Sandy? You guys coming to TRANSFORM? Hope to see you there!

Well Rob... I checked out the link below... uhh... yeah... interesting...

From when to when are you in Arizona? I thought you were already gone...

I won't be in church Sunday. My grandparents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

I have CPR/First Aid today in Latrobe, then I come home and work for several hours tonight, then drive to Greensburg tomorrow (I am going to Catholic Church... my grandparents are renewing their vows at church...) then a party at my mom's. Spend the night there and then get up and go to the Westmoreland Co. Sheriff Sale Monday...

Then I get to come home... there's no place like home...

Take care all...
